A renowned academic and former Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Prof. Aderonke Kofo Soetan, has said that some of her contributions have greatly assisted in catapulting the University into global reckoning.

Prof. Soetan stated this last Tuesday (March 31, 2026) while featuring on a popular Yoruba programme of UNILORIN 89.3 FM Oro to n lo, anchored by the Station Manager, Mr Idris Alooma.

She recalled that her activities in the realm of promotion of indigenous languages through innovative instructional resources,  Opon Onka and Ede yoruba dotun App, which have been patented, in conjunction with other colleagues across the University, have continued to make the University a respectable institution among its peers at national and global levels.

Prof. Soetan, who teaches at the Department of Educational Technology, explained that she was inspired by her Yoruba language background, which was boosted in the course of her undergraduate studies.

The don acknowledged the prospects of Educational Technology, noting that graduates of the field are in high demand and often become employers of labour rather than job seekers.

She expressed joy in her involvement in the nation’s human resources development, saying she has  supervised over 100 undergraduate projects, 25 Master’s dissertations and 6 Ph.D, theses. She said that most of the alumni of the University, who passed through her, are making waves in different sectors across the world as they are also bringing glory and honour to the University and the nation at large.

While praising the University management led by Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the Faculty of Education, Prof. Soetan encouraged students, staff, and the public to download ede yoruba dotun app on playstore and leverage indigenous languages to enhance education.

Prof. Soetan also emphasised women empowerment, urging them to join politics and take up leadership roles while maintaining humility and respect for their spouses.

She equally advised members of the younger generations to stay focused, virtuous, and avoid vices, saying that the future of those who are intelligent, diligent and exemplary is bright.
