Gbodofu bags international award on translation

A Professor at the Department of Arabic and Transnational Studies, University of Ilorin, Khalilullahi Uthman Gbodofu, has won the 2025 prestigious Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding.
The award was presented to Prof. Muhammad by the Emir of Qatar, who was represented by the Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamad Al Thani, at a colourful ceremony held last Tuesday (December 9,2025) at Doha, Qatar.
Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin on phone, Prof. Gbodofu thanked the authorities of the University of Ilorin for the privilege given to him to develop his talents as a translator, which earned him the award.
Prof. Gbodofu, who, prior to joining the services of the University of Ilorin, was a popular broadcaster with Radio Kwara, Ilorin, dedicated the award to all his teachers and students.
The renowned Professor of Arabic promised to continue to do his best towards the promotion of learning, understanding and harmony at local and international levels.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated the renowned Arabist on the award.
Prof. Egbewole, in a statement signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, commended Prof. Gbodofu for doing the University and Nigeria proud.
While urging Prof. Gbodofu not to relent in his efforts at promoting learning and understanding across borders, Prof. Egbewole urged other staff members, students, and alumni of the University to keep doing their best for themselves, the University and humanity at large.
