
Egbewole greets UNILORIN Muslim community at Eid-el-Kabir

The Director of Sports, University of Ilorin, Prof. Tajudeen Olanrewaju Ibraheem, has said that four students of the institution have been selected as members of the nation’s contingent to the upcoming World Universities Games (WUGA). The competition is scheduled to hold in Germany next month.
Prof. Ibraheem stated this last Wednesday (May 14, 2025) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
The Director explained that Aina Precious of the Department of Educational Technology emerged as the current fastest student in Nigeria, having won a Gold medal in 100 metres at the recently-concluded qualifying series for the World Universities Games held at the University of Jos.
He also applauded the outstanding achievement of Ruqoyyah Mustapha of the Department of Human Kinetics Education, who won a gold medal in both Shot Put and Discus at the qualifying series for World University Games qualifier series. He said that Mustapha would also represent Nigeria at the 2025 World University Games in Germany.
Prof. Ibraheem said that Mustapha is also the West Africa University Games Champion in both events.
Also mentioned among the leading sports champions produced by the University of Ilorin is Alaba Ilaboya, a student of the Department of Human Kinetics Education, who, he said, is a champion in male Javelin throw.
He noted that Ilaboya would also represent Nigeria at the upcoming WUGA slated for Germany next month. The Director disclosed that the Unilorite is the West African Universities Games (WAUG) champion in the event.
Prof. Ibraheem equally disclosed that Abdullah Abdul Azeez of the Department of Educational Management has qualified to represent Nigeria in 110 meters Hurdles at the upcoming World University Games.
The Director explained that the University has always done well in sports, saying that Miss Sofiah Obanisola of the Department of Human Kinetics Education remains a leading badminton player who did very well in previous NUGA championship.
He recalled that Miss Obanisola represented Nigeria at the 2024 All Africa Games in Ghana where she won Bronze Medal just as Miss Mariam Ayomide Usman from the Department of Human Kinetics Education remains a distinguished Volleyball player who also represented Nigeria as a member of the female volleyball team in the 2024 All Africa Games held in Ghana.
Prof. Ibraheem thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for being a sports enthusiast and for the huge investment of the University in sports development.
He explained that the achievements of the University in sports were made possible through the unrelenting support of the University Management.
While encouraging staff and students of the University to show more interest in sports to enhance their well-being, Prof. Ibraheem assured stakeholders that the University, particularly the students, would continue to do well in future sporting competitions.
