The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), University of Ilorin, has been commended for always impacting positively on the larger society, particularly through its Community-Based Experience Service (COBES).
This commendation was made recently by the Principal of the Ansarul Islam Senior Secondary School, Kuntu, Ilorin, Mrs Kuburat Omolara Abdul, while receiving some instructional materials donated to the school by members of the Group 6 2025 FET COBES, who participated in the programme in Adewole community, Ilorin.
Mrs Abdul said that she was delighted that the Group deemed it fit to donate science equipment to the school.
She also said that the management, staff and students of the school as well as parents and guardians would remain grateful to the participants for ensuring the renovation of some classrooms and the laboratory in the school.
The Principal said that the donated materials would motivate students not only to learn but also aim higher as the action of the benefactors would also ensure greater productivity and better service delivery among the teaching staff of the school.
Speaking on behalf of the Coordinator of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology’s COBES, Prof. Lanre Yusuf-Babaita, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Dr Kabiru Suleiman Ajao, said that the programme was designed to enable final year students of the Faculty to learn beyond the classroom.
He added that COBES was also institutionalised to encourage graduating students to learn how to share knowledge among related professionals and transfer the knowledge to the greater society as well as for the participants to serve as role-models to younger ones from within and outside the host community.
Prof. Yusuf-Babaita thanked the management of the school for the opportunity given to the Unilorites to impact knowledge and learn from the society.
The event was witnessed by many dignitaries including the Chairman of the School’s PTA, Mr Mahmood Loke Yunus, as well as several members of the COBES Group.
