FET trains PG students on research, innovation tools

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), University of Ilorin, has trained 84 postgraduate students on research and innovation through modern engineering tools and technologies.

The two-day training workshop, aimed at equipping the postgraduate students with hands-on skills in research methodology, data analysis, and academic publishing, held last Wednesday and Thursday (February 26 and 27, 2025) at the NLNG Building Conference Hall.

Speaking at the workshop, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Jamiu Odusote, expressed delight at the turnout and commended the organising team led by Dr K. O. Abdulrahman and Dr S. O. Zakariya.

He urged the participants to consolidate the knowledge gained through personal practice, noting that the workshop was part of the efforts of the Faculty to enhance the quality of research and innovation.

The Dean said, “I encourage you all to continue learning and applying these tools in your research projects. The goal is not just to acquire knowledge but to use it to produce quality research that addresses societal challenges.”

In his presentation on “Research Methodology in Engineering”, the Faculty’s Representative on the Postgraduate Board, Prof. H. A. Ajimotokan, tutored the participants on how to design, execute, and report research work effectively.

On his part, the Head of the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Dr J.A. Adebisi, spoke on data organisation, statistical analysis, and result presentation.

Also, in his presentation, Dr A.O. Otuoze, who spoke on “Focus on Research Paper Writing and Publishing Techniques”, guided participants on how to draft quality academic papers, select appropriate journals, and navigate the peer-review process.

In his remarks, Dr S. A. Yahaya, urged participants to learn how to format academic documents efficiently.

Speaking earlier, the Organising Committee Chairman, Dr K. O. Abdulrahman, appreciated the students’ enthusiasm and willingness to learn, describing the workshop as a step in the right direction for raising the standard of postgraduate research in the Faculty.

In their reactions, some of the participants expressed gratitude to the Faculty for the initiative, with many calling for more training sessions to cover emerging technologies and advanced research tools.
