The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, Prof. Oluyemisi B. Fawole, has expressed appreciation to the family of Dr O. Ibikunle for the generous donation of the late don’s Agricultural textbooks to the Faculty Library.

This event took place last Thursday (March 20, 2025) in the Dean’s office.

The Dean described the gesture as thoughtful and valuable, emphasising that it would serve as a lasting legacy of the late don’s  contributions to the field of Crop Protection.

Prof. Fawole highlighted the dedication and meticulous nature of the late Dr Ibikunle during his time at the University, adding that he was a detailed and organised scholar, always striving for excellence. She said that she had the privilege of passing through him as her lecturer, and his impact on students and colleagues alike was profound.

Prof. Fawole further noted that the Department of Crop Production, where the late don once served and retired 10 years ago, is now known as the Department of Agronomy.

The Dean also acknowledged the family’s commitment to preserving Dr Ibikunle’s academic legacy, assuring them that the donated books would greatly benefit both students and researchers, in further enriching the Faculty’s Library resources. She welcomed the family’s request for additional bookshelves to display the donated materials, pledging the Faculty’s support in making this a reality.

In her remarks, the widow of the late don Dr Florence Ibikunle expressed gratitude to the University for the opportunity to honour her husband’s memory in such a meaningful way, adding that the decision to donate the textbooks was inspired by her husband’s lifelong passion for education and dedication to knowledge sharing, adding that she also recalled her late husband’s unwavering commitment to his students and research.

She said her late husband believed that knowledge was best preserved and propagated through teaching and writing, and she is certain he would be pleased to know that his books have found a new home where they can contribute to learning and innovation.
