About Department of Forest Resources Management

The Department of Forest Resources Management was established as a department in the Faculty of Agriculture in 2010. The Department took off effectively in 2010/2011 academic session when the first set of students were admitted. The pioneering work to put the new Department on a sound footing started with the Academic Brief which was prepared by Prof. Labode Popoola, a Professor of Forest Economics at the Department of Forest Resources Management, University of Ibadan. Prof. B.A. Raji, who was on sabbatical leave from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, was saddled with the responsibility of co-ordinating the take-off of the Department. He was later joined in 2011 by Dr F.D. Babalola, Dr T.O. Amusa and Mrs N.A. Sadiku as the first full-time academic staff. Subsequently, Prof S.O. Bada and Dr F.A. Akinsanmi were employed on contract in 2012 while Dr S.O. Jimoh joined as sabbatical staff in 2013. They constituted the formidable team of pioneering academic staff that worked assiduously to lay the solid foundation for the Department. The Vice-chancellor appointed Prof. S.O. Bada as the substantive Head of the Department in November, 2012; when Prof. B.A. Raji became the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo. Between December 2015 to June 2016, Prof. Labode Popoola headed the Department before his appointment as the Vice-chancellor University of Osun, Osun State. Between 2016-2018, Dr F.D. Babalola was appointed the acting head of the Department while Dr. T.O. Amusa was appointed the acting head of the department between 2018 – 2021. Dr. A.A Adeyemi is the current head of the Department who was appointed in November, 2021.

We are a department bent on producing well-informed graduates with massive entrepreneurial and self-employment capabilities, who are worthy in character and learning. To this end, the department houses a set of thoroughbred professionals, poised with the required practical skills to deliver excellence in human resources and capacities, especially Forest Resources Managers and Environmentalists, who are highly-sought after by all.
