A former University Librarian, University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulwahab Olanrewaju Issa, has been conferred with the prestigious Fellowship Award of the Nigerian Library Association (FNLA).
The award was formally presented to him at the 63rd Annual General Meeting of the Association held on July 9, 2025 in Benin City, Edo State.
Meanwhile, the management of the University has congratulated Prof. Issa on the accomplishment.
In a congratulatory message signed by the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, the management described the honour as a recognition of Prof. Issa’s exceptional dedication, outstanding service, and long-standing contributions to the growth and development of the Library and Information Science profession in Nigeria.
He described the award as a remarkable honour, not only to Prof. Issa but also to the University of Ilorin, as it reflects his academic excellence and best practices in library and information services.
The Registrar said that “the University Management celebrates the achievement in this feat and also appreciates the continued support for the activities of the Association, as well as the unwavering advocacy for the advancement of library services,”.
The Management also commended Prof. Issa for bringing positive recognition to the University, stressing that the Fellowship Award is a testament to his professional commitment and scholarly contributions over the years.
Prof. Issa, a renowned scholar and seasoned librarian, has over the years distinguished himself as a leading voice in Library and Information Science education and practice, mentoring young professionals and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
The Nigerian Library Association Fellowship Award is one of the highest professional honours in the library profession in Nigeria reserved for individuals who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and sustained contributions to the sector.
With this recognition, Prof. Issa joins the league of eminent professionals whose works continue to shape the future of library and information services in Nigeria and beyond.
