Egbewole praises UNILORIN-RUDN collaboration

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has described the collaboration between the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) and the University of Ilorin as an initiative designed to enhance digital teaching capacity of staff members of the University of Ilorin.
Prof. Egbewoole, who was represented by the Director of the Centre for International Education (CIE), Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem, stated this last Tuesday (January 27, 2026) at a training programme, themed “Digital Pedagogy and Higher Education Teachers.”, held at the Mass Communication Board Room.
He noted that the training aligned with the University’s vision of innovation-driven teaching and global best practices.
The Vice Chancellor pointed out that digital pedagogy has become central to effective knowledge delivery in modern universities, particularly in the face of rapidly evolving learning technologies.
Prof. Egbewole, therefore, called on participants to approach the training with commitment and openness, stressing that its success depends largely on how well the knowledge gained is applied in classrooms.
The Vice Chancellor further charged the participants to serve as ambassadors of the programme by advocating wider awareness and participation whenever similar capacity-building opportunities arise.
In her remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, affirmed that the theme of the programme was carefully chosen to address the realities of contemporary higher education.
She stated that teaching contemporary students, who are digitally inclined, requires innovative and adaptive pedagogical approaches to effectively deliver lectures and the needed information to achieve target goals.
Prof. Abdulbaqi maintained that digital pedagogy is critical to sustaining students’ engagement and improving learning outcomes.
She commended the University management for prioritising staff development and appreciated RUDN University for the international partnership, noting that such collaborations strengthen academic excellence and institutional relevance.
The facilitator of the programme, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Jamiu, explained that digital pedagogy goes beyond the use of technology, stressing the need for intentional instructional design, interactive teaching methods, and effective use of digital tools.
Dr Jamiu enlightened participants through practical strategies for integrating technology into teaching, assessment, and academic communication.He added that higher education teachers must continuously upgrade their skills to remain effective in a global academic environment.
According to him, adopting digital pedagogy enhances flexibility, inclusiveness, and innovation in the learning process.
Responding on behalf of the participants, Mrs Muhammad from the Department of Information Technology expressed gratitude to the University management and RUDN University for the opportunity. She described the training as insightful and relevant, pledging to apply the knowledge gained to improve their teaching and student engagement.
