Egbewole pledges support for UNILORIN RATTAWU

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has pledged his support for the University’s Chapter of the Radio, Television and Theatre Arts Workers’ Union (RATTAWU) as he described journalists as critical stakeholders in the growth, reputation and development of the University.

Prof. Egbewole stated this last Monday (February 2, 2026) when he received the Executive Committee members of the institution’s RATAWU, led by its Chairman, Mr Yinka Soliu Magaji-Nda, who paid him a familiarisation visit in his office.

The Vice Chancellor congratulated the team on their recent election and commended members of the Union for their contributions to information dissemination and institutional visibility.

According to him, the role of the broadcast and media professionals remains vital in shaping public perception, strengthening communication and promoting the achievements of the university community.

Prof. Egbewole further assured the Union that all issues and requests presented by it would be attended to appropriately in line with established administrative processes.

Speaking on collaboration, the Vice Chancellor directed the Union to liaise with the Director of the CentreĀ  the Creative Arts and Cultural Studies to explore areas of synergy towards celebrating the World Cultural Day in a more elaborate and glamorous manner, noting that cultural celebrations promote diversity, creativity and global engagements within the university system.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of RATAWU, University of Ilorin chapter, Mr Magaji-Nda, appreciated the Vice Chancellor and the University management for providing a conducive working environment that allows staff to carry out their duties effectively and freely associate through recognised unions.

Mr Magaji-Nda, who described RATAWU as an umbrella organisation of workers in radio and television stations, explained that the visit was to formally familiarise the Union leadership with the University administration and strengthen existing working relationships.

The RATAWU Chairman also sought the support of the University management towards the successful hosting and celebration of the Union’s activities in 2026 such as the World Radio Day scheduled for February 13, World Cultural Day on May 19, 2026, and the World Television Day on November 21.

He reaffirmed the commitment of members of the Union to continue working harmoniously with the University Administration to sustain the developmental strides of the institution and promote professional excellence in broadcasting and media practice.
