Egbewole, others honour Omopupa at Special Thanksgiving Prayer

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, penultimate Saturday (October 4, 2025) led dignitaries from all walks of life to a Special Thanksgiving organised by the Omopupa family of Alanamu Quarters, Ilorin, in honour of the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, on his promotion to the exalted rank of Professor.

Speaking at the event held at the Balogun Alanamu Mosque, Ilorin, a renowned cleric, Dr Ibrahim Kareem Arilomo, said that Prof. Omopupa truly deserved the honour considering the trajectory of his career.

He recalled that Prof. Omopupa has always been a hardworking and enterprising academic who started his career as a lecturer at the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin, about 25 years ago.

He added that the University Librarian has always exhibited exemplary humility and patriotism.

Also speaking, the Imam Balogun Alanamu Mosque, Imam Shehu Miqdad Alfa Adama, explained that Prof. Omopupa has always been a role model to younger ones before and since his emergence as a Principal Officer of the University of Ilorin over three years ago.

He urged Prof. Omopupa to maintain his fantastic dispositions by continuing to be the best he could be to his family, University and society at large.

In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin on the sideline of the event, Prof. Omopupa said that he was humbled by the magnitude and calibre of individuals that attended the event.

He was particularly grateful to the Vice Chancellor for his fatherly support as he also thanked the organisers for finding him worthy of the celebration.

Prof. Omopupa assured all that he would continue to make them proud by discharging his responsibilities to the best of his ability.

Others who attended the event were the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal; the Director, Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board(JUPEB), Prof. Ibrahim Kayode Adam; a former Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Prof. Aliyu Ajibola Akanbi II; a former Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof Shehu Ahmad Abdussalam; a retired Assistant Commandant-General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Alhaji Taiye Ayinla Olowo; Mr Mohammad Abubakar of the State House, Abuja; a retired senior military officer, Col Muhammed Adisa kareem; a prominent community leader, Alhaji Ayuba Danmusa, and a retired Permanent Secretary in Kwara State, Hajia Habibat Salman-Saidu among several others from far and near.
