As part of his efforts at expanding the international horizon of the University of Ilorin, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has led a delegation consisting of some members of the University Governing Council on a working visit to Ethiopia.

The one-week visit, which started last Tuesday (February 3, 2026), will be concluded on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

Among the places visited by the delegation are the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University and Adama University, both in the Ethiopian capital, where fruitful discussions bordering on cooperation and collaboration were held with their respective authorities.

During the deliberations, Prof. Egbewole, who is the Vice President (West Africa) of the Association of African Universities (AAU), called for more collaboration among African universities for the continent to witness rapid transformation.

The Vice Chancellor drew the attention of his hosts to the giant strides being recorded by the University of Ilorin in various areas and its readiness to embrace fruitful collaboration in research, staff and student exchange, among other areas.

One of the major highlights of the visit was a testimonial interaction between the Vice Chancellor and a young talent, Joseph, who is making waves in the field of coding.

Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), commended the teenager for his creativity, which, he said, has turned him into a celebrity at a young age.

The Vice Chancellor described Joseph as one of the African future innovators being nurtured in Ethiopia, saying that the achievements of the young talent are encouraging and inspiring.

Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Chairman of the Consortium of Kwara Universities (KU8+), said that Africa is blessed with innumerable numbers of such exciting and brilliant young individuals who are waiting to be discovered, encouraged and explored for the greatness of the continent and humanity.

The Vice Chancellor assured his hosts that the University of Ilorin would not hesitate to do everything within its power to assist the young talent and his likes across Africa and Nigeria in particular for them to realise their full potential.

Other members of the delegation, who are all Council members, include the Deputy Director (Academic Planning Unit), Mr AbdulRasheed Dauda Gidado; the Director, Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre (TEC), Prof. Usman Adebimpe Raheem; a former Dean, Postgraduate School, Prof. Raji AbdulGafar Bello; and the Director, Mentorship Centre, Prof. Tanimola Makanjuola Akande
