Egbewole lauds legacy of late Imam Oladotun

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has urged Nigerians, irrespective of their faith, culture or beliefs, to live lives that promote harmony, mutual respect, and positive impact on society.
Prof. Egbewole made this call penultimate Saturday (March 7, 2026) during the launching of the Imam Murtadha Hussain Oladotun Foundation for Educational Advancement and Social Harmony (IMHOFEASH) held at Offa.
The Vice Chancellor noted that although he never had the opportunity to meet the late Imam personally, but the children of the late Imam Murtadha Hussain Oladotun that he knows, the large turnout of people at the programme and the numerous positive testimonies about him were clear indications that he lived a remarkable life and left behind a worthy legacy.
Prof. Egbewole stated that the enduring impact of the late scholar’s life continues to resonate many years after his death, noting that despite passing on in 1999, people still speak highly of him 26 years later. He added that the legacy and values a person leaves behind remain the true measure of a meaningful life.
The Vice Chancellor also reflected on the brevity of the late Imam’s life, noting that he did not live up to 50 years but was able to make a lasting impact through dedication to education, faith, and community service.
He, however, expressed hope that the Foundation established in his honour would grow and surpass expectations in promoting educational advancement and social harmony.
Speaking earlier, the Chief Host and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Arc. Abdulrauf Oriyomi Lawal, said the late Imam was his elementary Arabic school teacher in the 1970s and played a significant role in shaping Islamic education in Offa.
