The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated one of his predecessors, Prof. Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, OFR, NOPM, on the occasion of his 78th birthday, which fell due last Wednesday (October 22, 2025).
In a statement signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole described Prof. AbdulRaheem as one of the highly-impactful former helsmen of the University.
Prof. Egbewole recalled the fascinating tenure of the former Vice Chancellor at the University, saying that it was truly phenomenal, considering all the institution achieved under his watch.
The Vice Chancellor said that the stability of the University’s academic calendar, which has continued to distinguish it from its peers, began during Prof. AbdulRaheem’s administration.
He added that the impact of Prof. AbdulRaheem’s Administration is further admired by the fact that 23 years after the completion of his tenure, the management, staff, students and alumni of the University still celebrate some of its achievements, including the slogan, Better By Far, that was adopted by the institution when he was in charge.
Prof. Egbewole thanked the retired Professor of English for consistently doing the University of Ilorin proud with fantastic performances in all the offices he has held over the years, particularly as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) and his current simultaneous roles as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Councils of three universities.
The Vice Chancellor said that the Management, staff and student of the University were happy that Prof. AbdulRaheem, whose tenure marked the institution’s Silver jubilee, is hale and hearty as the institution marks its Golden Jubilee in a few weeks time.
Prof. Egbewole wished the former Vice Chancellor more years of sound health and happiness.
