The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji(Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, on the occasion of his 30th coronation anniversary. The anniversary coincides with Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor described the reign of the Emir as hugely remarkable and a blessing to the people of the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large.
Prof. Egbewole added that the Emir has always acted and proven to be a father of all, saying that the foremost traditional ruler has been an advocate of peace and development.
The Vice Chancellor specifically thanked the Emir for his love, support and prayers for the University before and since he mounted the stool in 1995.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), said that one of the most significant episodes in the reign of the Emir is the exponential growth in the number of universities operating in Ilorin and Kwara State at large.
The renowned legal luminary, who said that the Emir had had a very fascinating career as a jurist before his accession to the throne, recalled that more than ten universities have since been established within Ilorin and across Kwara State to complement the University of Ilorin in providing university education for the people of the state and their counterparts from other parts of the country and beyond.
The Vice Chancellor said that he is delighted that the coronation anniversary is taking place at the time the University is also marking its 50th anniversary.
Prof. Egbewole promised that in addition to strengthening its Centre for Ilorin Studies(CILS) for better service delivery, the University will continue to support the Ilorin community towards making it a better place to learn and live.
The Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the Council, Management and staff of the University, wished Alhaji Sulu-Gambari a continuous peaceful and more rewarding reign.
