The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commended the Oloyede Family Foundation for sustaining its Annual Ramadan Lecture.

Prof. Egbewole gave the commendation penultimate Saturday (March 7, 2026) while speaking at the 11th edition of the annual lecture held at the Engineering Centre, Tanke, Ilorin.

He said that the annual programme promotes intellectual discourse and spiritual growth, particularly during Ramadan.

The Vice Chancellor lauded the founder of the Foundation, Prof. Hussein O.B. Oloyede, for his contributions to education and community development as he expressed confidence that the lecture would inspire attendees to cultivate humility.

Delivering the lecture, titled “Humility and Arrogance: Insights from an Islamic Perspective,” the Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muhyideen Salman Hussein Al-Adabiy, emphasised that humility elevates a person before Allah and humanity, while arrogance leads to moral and spiritual decline.

Quoting several portions of the Holy Quran, the Chief Imam warned against pride and disdain for others. He defined arrogance as despising people and assuming superiority over them.

The Chief Imam further stated that human knowledge remains limited. He noted that arrogance often arises from wealth, power, knowledge, status, lineage, physical appearance, or even acts of worship. He urged Muslims to guard against pride, saying that worldly advantages are transient.

The event was attended by the Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin; the Vice Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Prof. Musa Aibinu; and former Vice Chancellors of the Federal University of Technology,Minna, Prof. Sulyman O. Adeyemi and Prof. Musbau Akanji as well as Dr Taofiq Oloyede.
