The Chaplain of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chaplaincy, University of Ilorin, Rev. Fr. Celestine Emah, has charged fresh graduates of the institution to embrace humility in their next phase of life, just as the University authorities demonstrated by coming together to thank God for a successful 40th Convocation ceremony.
Rev. Fr. Emah gave this advice penultimate Sunday (October 26, 2025) during a Thanksgiving Mass to round off the 40th Convocation Ceremonies of the University.
Delivering his homily, titled “Humility of Life,” the Chaplain emphasised that humility remains a foundation for sustained success, noting that every achievement, no matter how great, should be attributed to divine grace and guidance.
He explained that success without humility often leads to pride and downfall, urging the newly graduated students to remain grounded, grateful, and God-fearing as they journey into new chapters of life.
He added that their graduation marks the beginning of another stage in life where challenges will test the faith and values as he said that through humility one can remain steadfast, respectful, and open to learning.
Rev. Fr. Emah commended the University management for their collective expression of gratitude to God for the success of the 40th Convocation Ceremonies, describing it as a sign of wisdom and spiritual awareness.
He said that the attitude of thanksgiving demonstrates leadership rooted in faith and integrity. He further prayed for continuous divine blessings upon the University, its management, and the entire Unilorin community, stressing that the culture of gratitude would continue to attract favour and divine direction to the institution.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, appreciated the Chaplain and the entire Chaplaincy community for their unrelenting support towards the University’s programmes and spiritual wellbeing.
The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services) and Chairman, Ceremonials Committee, Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, thanked God for the peaceful and successful conduct of the 40th Convocation ceremonies, noting that the University has continued to record growth, unity, and excellence through divine grace.
