The Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, Prof. Adesina Lukman Azeez, last Tuesday (January 7, 2025) inaugurated a five-member committee that would facilitate the inauguration of the Kwara State Chapter executives of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN).

The inauguration was a major highlight of a meeting held between Prof. Azeez, who is the Vice President (North Central) of ACSPN, and Heads of the Department of Mass Communication in institutions of higher learning in Kwara State at the Department of Mass Communication Boardroom, University of Ilorin.

Members of the Committee include Dr Victor Babatunde of the Kwara State University, Malete; Mr.Olohungbe Fatiu of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin; Dr Bankole Temitope of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa; Mr A. I. Ibrahim of Thomas Adewumi University, Oko;  and Mr Kehinde Adeniran of Lens Polytechnic, Offa.

Prof. Azeez charged the committee members to work diligently to ensure that the state chapter executives are inaugurated by March 2025.

He encouraged them to mobilise their staff to join the Association, emphasising the importance of institutional membership and professional inclusion.

Prof. Azeez assured that registered members of ACSPN would receive identification numbers and membership certificates for ease of recognition at the state and national levels. He highlighted the benefits of membership, which include regular conference attendances.

He expressed gratitude to attendees and acknowledged the support of the Department of Mass Communication staff at the University of Ilorin, whose excellence and integrity, he said, contributed to his emergence as ACSPN’s Vice President.

In his remarks, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Dr. Kayode Lambe Mustapha, commended Prof. Azeez for facilitating a successful deliberation.

Dr.Mustapha advised members to be supportive, committed, and proactive in their responsibilities. He also encouraged them to submit useful suggestions and ideas to the Desk Officer, Dr. Adisa, who would update the committee members, thereby ensuring the Association’s success.

Other Mass Communication scholars that attended the meeting included the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Dr. Patrick Udende; and a former Head of the Department, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, among others.
