Arowolo, UNILORIN Senior Chief Technologist, loses mom

The death has been announced of a prominent female Islamic scholar, Hajiya Rihanat Arowolo. Hajiya Arowolo, who was the mother of a Senior Chief Technologist at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Ilorin, Mr Muhammad Olatunji Arowolo, died penultimate Sunday (February 22, 2026).
Hajiya Arowolo was not only a respected leader of the Women Wing of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria but also one of the prominent female Muslim leaders in the Ilorin Emirate Community.
The deceased was buried in Ilorin on the same day after a Janazah prayer led by the Imam Imale of Ilorin, Shaykh Abdullahi Abdulhamid, who was supported by other leading Muslim clerics, at the Sultanate Mosque, Adewole, Ilorin, while the fidau was held at the same venue last Tuesday (February 24, 2026).
Hajiya Arowolo was also an elder sister to an ex-staff of the University, who served as Personal Assistant to the sixth and seventh Vice Chancellors of the University (Prof. Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, OFR; and Prof. Shamusudeen Amali, OON), respectively, Mr Abdulbaqi Jimoh. She was also a sister-in-law to the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi.
Among several members of the University of Ilorin community who attended the funeral ceremonies organised in honour of the late Hajiya Arowolo were a former Vice Chancellor of the University and Talba of Ilorin, Prof. Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem; the Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla and the Director, Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) Foundation School, Prof. Ibrahim Kayode Adam.
