Always be mindful of your health, Fawole urges colleagues

By Isaac Lewu

The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, Prof. Oluyemisi Bolajoko Fawole, has charged staff of the Faculty to always be mindful of their health.

Prof. Fawole gave this advice last Tuesday (June 3, 2025) while speaking at a One-Day Health Check organised by the Faculty for staff members at the Faculty Boardroom.

The Dean said that the Faculty decided to organise the programme so as to draw the attention of the beneficiaries to their health status in order to precipitate necessary attention.

While explaining the significance of the programme, Prof. Fawole said that a healthy workforce is key to achieving higher productivity and better service delivery.

She, therefore, emphasised the importance of regular medical check-ups, stressing that it enables individuals to detect potential health issues early, which can then be addressed promptly and effectively.

Prof. Fawole urged all staff members to make routine health checks a priority, noting that prevention is always better and often cheaper than cure.

The Chairman of the Faculty Welfare Committee, Prof. Mutiat A. Balogun, expressed appreciation to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), University of Ilorin, Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, who is also the Managing Director and CEO of Anchormed Hospital, for approving the free health checks for staff of the Faculty.

Prof. Balogun also acknowledged the dedication and professionalism of the nurses and staff of the Hospital, noting that their efforts made the exercise smooth and impactful.

She explained that many staff members often neglect their health due to busy schedules, which is why the Committee felt the need to bring the services of the hospital to them.

Also speaking, the former Director of the Sugar Research Institute, University of Ilorin, Prof. Felix Takim, described the programme as not only commendable but also the first of its kind in the history of the Faculty.

Prof. Takim urged his colleagues to take the exercise as a reminder that only a healthy person can fulfil his responsibilities effectively.

On his part, Dr Abimbola Arise praised the initiative and encouraged other Faculties to adopt similar initiatives for the benefit of their staff.

She noted that many staff members are overwhelmed by academic and administrative duties and often lack the time to visit  hospitals.

Dr  Arise described the medical check-up as a thoughtful gesture that puts staff welfare at the forefront and promotes a healthier University environment.
