Anigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Habeeb Bolaji Elemosho, has encouraged graduating students of the Department of Religions (Islamic Studies Unit), University of Ilorin to explore opportunities beyond traditional religious scholarship, particularly in the fields of entrepreneurship and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for them to have a great future.
Lt. Elemosho gave this advice last Monday (June 2, 2025) while speaking at this year’s edition of the Department’s annual symposium organised by its graduating students with the theme “Building Halal Personal Entrepreneurship in the age of Artificial Intelligence” held at the Faculty of Arts Lecture Hall.
He, however, urged them to pursue entrepreneurship and explore Artificial Intelligence with Islamic principles.
Lt. Elemosho, who is also an alumnus of the University, challenged the students not to limit themselves but to see their education as a gateway to wider societal impact.
“Don’t limit yourself. Explore the right ways, because doing so can be an act of worship,” Lt. Elemosho said.
“An Islamic Studies certificate is not a barrier to greatness. Life may be hard at first, but ease will come if you put your trust in Almighty Allah.”, he explained.
The Army officer urged students to acquire digital and entrepreneurial skills, particularly in emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence, noting that AI is also transforming military operations, including drone warfare.
“Start developing digital skills, learn how AI works, and apply it in a halal way to benefit society,” he advised.
He also said that, “entrepreneurship is not just about making money, but making halal income. That should be the goal of every Muslim entrepreneur.”
Lt. Elemosho stressed that intention, transparency, and accountability are essential in any business pursuit, adding that the ultimate objective should be to please Allah while positively impacting the community.
Also speaking at the event, Mallam Abdulsalam Aladodo, the founder of Mobile Cap Moll, cautioned students against compromising their faith for fame or wealth.
“Your portion of wealth is already written by Almighty Allah,” he said. “Be honest, trustworthy, and uphold integrity. These are the keys to long-term success in any venture.”
He warned about the misuse of social media and Artificial Intelligence, stating, “AI will make brilliant people more brilliant and the foolish more foolish. Use it wisely to enhance your business and not for negative purposes that can destroy the society.”
Speaking earlier, the Head of the Department of Religions, Prof. A.G. Alamu, who was represented by Dr A.O. Meleki, encouraged the students to diversify their skills and not be confined to traditional paths.
In his closing remarks, a Deputy Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin Central Mosque, Prof. Yahaya Oyewole Imam, thanked the guest speakers for their insightful contributions and urged the students to “think beyond being local champions” by stepping out of their comfort zones.
The event, which featured poetry rendition and presentation of awards of recognition to deserving individuals, was aimed at bridging faith based values with emerging technology and business opportunities.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Sub-Dean, Dr Abdulhamid Yusuf Badmus, Dr Yusuf Gambari, Dr Abdulgafar Olawale Fahm and Mr I.O Oniye, among others.
