Alfanla urges staff to embrace postings, drive Vision 1:10:500

The Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, has urged staff of the institution’s Registry Unit not to resist official postings, describing such administrative decisions as essential tools for professional growth and institutional efficiency.

Speaking last Thursday (March 26, 2026) at the 2026 First Quarterly Registry Seminar held at the  Multipurpose Hall, Mr Alfanla, who encouraged the staff members to approach redeployments with an open mind, noted that exposure to different units enhances administrative competence and broadens experience.

While advising the staff to make deliberate efforts to understand the demands of their new offices and align quickly with the expectations of their roles, the Registrar said adaptability remains a critical attribute for effective performance within the University system.

He commended the Registry staff for their diligence, commitment, cooperation and for the positive feedback he has received from various sister institutions since he assumed office.

Commenting on the First Quarterly Registry Seminar of the year, the Registrar lauded the Seminar’s discussants, led by Mrs Mary Olayemi, for their insightful contributions, and appreciated the improvements introduced to the seminar format. He noted that such innovations have enhanced its relevance and impact, adding that the Registry’s practice of applying theoretical knowledge to real administrative situations has continued to strengthen service delivery and produce more competent administrators.

Mr Alfanla equally congratulated staff members who were promoted during the 2025 promotion exercise, reminding them that higher responsibilities come with greater expectations. He also formally welcomed newly recruited ones, noting that their selection from over 26,000 applicants was an affirmation of their merit and potential. He encouraged them to aspire to the highest levels in the profession, including the position of Registrar, and to seek mentorship from experienced colleagues to better understand the ethics and expectations of the system.

Meanwhile, a panel of discussants at the seminar which featured the Deputy Registrar, Council Office, Mrs. Mary Olayemi; the Deputy Registrar, Academic Support Services (Certificate Unit), Mrs. Veronica Shade Aduloju; the Deputy Registrar, Human Resources (Academic), Mr John Aiyedun; the Acting Admissions Officer, Mr. Kunle Sani; and Senior Assistant Registrar (Training and Development), Mrs Asabe Yusuf; has acknowledged the critical role of Registry staff in advancing the institutional agenda of the University of Ilorin, particularly in realising the Administration’s “Vision 1:10:500”.

In their separate contributions, the discussants stated that Registry personnel must cultivate a strong culture of discipline and accountability to effectively drive the University’s vision, noting that without discipline, institutional goals would remain unattainable. He urged staff to uphold ethical standards and demonstrate responsibility in all official duties.

The panel also identified effective communication as a cornerstone for the smooth operation of the Registry. While they advised senior officers to be deliberate in choosing appropriate tones when communicating with subordinates, the junior staff were encouraged to in turn, maintain respect for constituted authority. According to them, mutual respect and clarity in communication channels are essential for administrative efficiency.

While stressing the significance of teamwork, the discussants urged staff to see themselves as members of a unified system, where collaboration and collective responsibility are key to achieving set objectives, adding that, effective team bonding would not only enhance communication but it would also improve overall productivity within the Registry.

Speaking on the University’s core values, the panelists identified accountability as a fundamental principle guiding administrative conduct.

The panel also outlined key institutional values captured in the acronym “INJECT”, which means Integrity, Networking, Justice, Excellence, Compassion, and Teamwork, as they urged staff to internalise and reflect these values in their daily operations.

They, however, appealed to their colleagues to imbibe positive attitude, noting that, positive behavior combined with a sound knowledge of University policies and conditions of service, would significantly enhance productivity. They urged staff to position themselves as agents of positive change and remain relevant within the system by consistently applying established rules and best practices in their daily activities.
