The Director, Quality Assurance Unit, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulRazzaq AbdulMajeed Alaro, has been named the Nigerian Islamic Finance Person of the Year 2025 by Muslim News Nigeria, the country’s most authoritative Islamic newspaper.
The choice of Prof. Alaro, who is also a former Head of the institution’s Department of Islamic Law, was announced penultimate Friday(November 14, 2025) after a careful selection from the list of six distinguished personalities drawn from across Nigeria by a committee of experts on Islamic finance from both Nigeria and Malaysia.
Prof. Alaro is a lawyer, teacher and cleric who was trained in Islamic Law at the Islamic University, Madinah, Saudi Arabia, and Omdurman University, Sudan.
Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin on the development, Prof. Alaro said that he never saw the award coming as he has always been doing all he does without the expectation of any reward from anyone or body except Allah.
Prof. Alaro thanked the authorities of the University of Ilorin for their support to him as he promised to continue to do his best in giving the University fascinating representation everywhere he goes.
Reacting, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said that the choice of Prof. Alaro for the award is well-deserved going by his numerous contributions to the understanding and progress of Islamic Finance in Nigeria and beyond.
In a statement signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole said that the award is also timely as it came at the time the University is celebrating its Golden Jubilee.
The Vice Chancellor, while thanking Prof. Alaro for always bringing honour to the University, urged other staff members, students and alumni of the University to emulate the cleric-don by remaining relentless in their career advancement.
