The Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ilorin, Prof. Habeeb A. Ajimotokan, has been conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE).
Prof. Ajimotokan was conferred with the Fellowship at the 38th NIMechE International Conference, Exhibition and Annual General Meeting, tagged EKO 2025, held in Lagos from October 14 to 16, 2025.
At the well-attended event, which brought together Mechanical Engineers, industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers from across the country and the diaspora, Prof. Ajimotokan was described by its organisers as “a visionary academic and mentor whose career bridges generations, disciplines, and continents.”
The organisers added that Prof. Ajimotokan’s election as a Fellow represents a significant recognition of more than two decades of steadfast dedication to the growth and modernisation of Mechanical Engineering in Nigeria.
Prof. Ajimotokan, who began his academic career in 2006 as a Graduate Assistant at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ilorin, and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 2023, is also a prolific author and outstanding innovator.
The honouree, who is also the Chairman of the University of Ilorin Environmental Maintenance Committee and a Member of the Board of Postgraduate School, served as a Council and Senate Member at Cranfield University, United Kingdom from 2013 to 2014 and was also President of the Cranfield University Students’ Association during the same period, where he championed cross-cultural academic collaborations and student welfare.
In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin on the award, Prof. Ajimotokan expressed gratitude to NIMechE for the honour granted him, describing it as a call for stronger national service.
“This Fellowship is not just a personal milestone; it is also a collective recognition of the efforts of my colleagues, students, and collaborators who share a vision of building a sustainable and innovative engineering ecosystem for Nigeria,” Prof. Ajimotokan remarked.
