The Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, has reminded members of the University community, particularly staff and students, to adhere strictly to the use of official titles in addressing one another and most especially in their official communications.
Mr Alfanla stated this last Friday(October 17, 2025) while featuring on Countdown to UNILORIN @ 50, a special personality interview of UNILORIN 89.3 FM. The programme was jointly anchored by the Head of the Station, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim(Alooma) and the Station’s Head of Programmes, Mr Temitope Olawuyi.
The Registrar said that staff and students of the University should restrict themselves to titles like Professor, Doctor, Mister and Miss as appropriate instead of Alhaji, Alhaja, Reverend, Deacon, Barrister and so on.
Mr Alfanla, who said that the University deserves to be celebrated for its contributions in the last 50 years, commended members of the University community for consistently upholding dignity, diligence and integrity.
He recalled that the University of Ilorin was the first Nigerian University that introduced dress code for staff and students of the University, saying that it is truly Better By Far.
Mr Alfanla described the University as the best of its peers that were founded in 1975 as he urged staff, students and other stakeholders to support the efforts being made by its current management under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.
With 15,000 hectares of land, the Registrar said that the University stands among those with the largest physical territories in Nigeria.
He said that with expansive landmass coupled with growing human and material resources; the University has prospects for more accomplishments as time progresses.
Mr Alfalna, therefore, called for more support from its alumni and friends as well as others for the University to maintain its leadership position.
