Adeniyi, Awotunde, Adekola lead UNILORIN authors on Scopus

An Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Ilorin, Dr Adewale George Adeniyi, has emerged as the most ranked researcher from the University on Scopus (h-index) with 254 documents.

Dr Adeniyi is followed by Dr Joseph Bamidele Awotunde of the Department of Computer Science with 277 documents while Prof. Folahan Adekola of the Department of Chemistry emerged as the third most highly ranked researcher on Scopus with 162 documents as at last Thursday (September 11, 2025).

The list also includes with Prof. Musa Toyin Yakubu of the Department of Biochemistry, who has 104 contributions with Prof. Kolawole Wahab, who teaches at the Department of Medicine, credited with 127.

Others are Prof. Lukman Abdur-Rahman of the Department of Paediatric Surgery, who has 92; Dr Ismail Odetokun from the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine with 96; Prof. Adenike Temidayo Oladiji of the Department of Biochemistry with 57 and Emeritus Professor Musbau Akanji, a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, who retired from the  Department of Biochemistry, with 66 while Dr Olubunmi Atolani of the Department of Chemistry has 89.

Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, congratulated the top researchers and encouraged the academic staff to strive for excellence.

The Vice Chancellor further said, “I urge all our academic staff to emulate the dedication and hard work exhibited by our top researchers. Let us continue to produce high-quality researches that impact our community and the world at large. I charge everyone to do more, publish more, and innovate more, so we can further elevate the reputation of the University of Ilorin as a hub of academic excellence.”
