The Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Clinical Science, University of Ilorin, Prof. Dupe S. Ademola-Popoola, has been elected Assistant Honorary Treasurer and Executive Committee member of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS).
This was disclosed in a letter by the Secretary-General of the College, Prof. F. O. Ugwumba.
In the letter, a copy of which was sighted by UNILORIN Bulletin last Tuesday (March 25, 2025), Prof. Ugwumba stated that Prof. Ademola-Popoola would hold the post for the period of 2025-2027.
He wished her a highly successful period in office, adding that the Council looked forward to the positive impact her leadership would bring to the College and the region.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated Prof. Ademola on the appointment, describing it as “a remarkable honour to her and the University.”
In a congratulatory letter written on his behalf by the Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, the Vice Chancellor said that the appointment is “a testament to your exemplary leadership, professionalism, commitment and dedication to academic excellence and best practices.”
Also in their congratulatory messages, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, Prof. S. B. Alabi and the Dean of the Faculty acknowledged Prof. Ademola-Popoola’s efforts that have taken her this far, hoping that her wealth of knowledge and experience will be brought to bear in her new assignment at WACS.
Reacting to the election, Prof. Ademola-Popoola said that it is a great honour to the University.
In a notification memo to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ademola-Popoola said that her election is “certainly a great honour to our highly esteemed institution. Thank you for providing the enabling environment for a productive career.”
