Adelu is new UNILORIN Students’ Union President

A 300-Level student of the Department of Political Science, University of Ilorin, Mr Adelu Idris Ayomo, has emerged as the 38th President of the University’s Students’ Union.

In the election held last Wednesday (June 18, 2025), Adelu secured victory after defeating his sole rival, Rasheed Afees Opeyemi, a student of the Department of Educational Management.

Adelu polled 2,211 votes, against  Rasheed’s 1,935 votes.

Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin shortly after the announcement of results, Adelu expressed profound gratitude to the students of the University for their support.

The President-elect pledged to prioritise students’ welfare and collaborate with the University Management in advancing the institution’s aspiration towards achieving its vision.

Other elected members of the Central Executive Council (CEC) of the Students’ Union include: Ganiyu Rahmat Bukola as Vice President (Permanent Site); Ibraheem Azeezat Oyindamola, Vice President (College), Alaafin Kaosarat Ajoke, General Secretary; Akano Priscilla Moyinoluwa, Assistant General Secretary, Adam Mozeed Public Relations Officer, Akinlade Abraham Oluwasegun, Financial Secretary; Abiola Idris Olaoye, Social Secretary; Ahmad Olumide Musa, Welfare Secretary; Oladosu Gideon Solomon,  Sports Secretary.

In addition to the executive positions, representatives from various Faculties were elected as senators into the legislative arm of the Students’ Union and  Hall representatives were also chosen during the elections.

Earlier, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Alex Akanmu, commended all stakeholders for the orderly conduct of the elections.

He urged students to maintain peace even after the declaration of results. Dr Akanmu reiterated the  support of the University management, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, whom he described as a “father to all students.”

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the 38th Students’ Electoral Commission, Miss Peace Dina, expressed appreciation to the University management, Deans, Sub-Deans, her mentors, and parents for the opportunity given to her to lead the commission to a successful conclusion.

She described the election as a collective victory for all students and the University community.

The election was monitored by both internal and external security agencies as well as media organisations as it was  adjudged to be free, fair, and credible.
