The Professional Accreditation Team to the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Ilorin, has commended the quality of staff, infrastructure as well as the confidence and professionalism of students in the Department.
The Chairman of the team, Arc. Dayo Adeyemi, gave the commendation last Thursday (August 14, 2025), when he led other members on a visit to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, to present the team’s findings to the University authorities.
The Accreditation Team lead pointed out that working with the staff of the Department was highly rewarding due to their full cooperation. While noting that staff strength had improved significantly since the last accreditation visit, the team noted the need for further reinforcement.
Arc. Adeyemi reported that the students were impressive, vibrant, and confident. He said they were observed actively engaged in academic activities under the supervision of their lecturers, as well as in informal interactions. He said that their professional attitude stood out, even at their level of study, which contrasted with experiences from some other universities in Nigeria.
The team lead, however, said while some students expressed concern about strict invigilation during examinations and other academic activities, the panel considered this a positive reflection of the Department’s commitment to academic excellence.
The team also expressed satisfaction with the significant improvements in the Department’s infrastructure since the last accreditation exercise. These include the provision of offices with personal toilets, new furniture, and a newly furnished Board Room, which were viewed as major upgrades.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, appreciated the team’s detailed and thorough work, assuring it that the administration would address all observations raised by taking deliberate steps to improve all identified grey areas.
Lamenting that the staffing challenges persist due to government policy, Prof. Egbewole expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved before the next accreditation exercise as he reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to strengthening the programmes of the Department to ensure that graduates are well-prepared and become fully qualified professionals.
