A former Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Prof. Saudat S. Abdulbaqi, has emphasised the importance of professionalism among Information and Public Relations Officers in the country.
Prof. Abdulbaqi stated this penultimate Thursday (December 12, 2024) while speaking at a Workshop organised by the Sardauna Ilorin Legacy Platform (SILEP) in collaboration with the Information Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara Council, held at the Kwara State Ministry of Communications Conference Room.
Speaking further at the workshop, themed, “Propagation and Documentation of Government Policies and Programmes: Renewed Role of Press Secretaries”, Prof. Abdulbaqi, who is also a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), stressed that professionals must strictly adhere to ethical standards, maintain accuracy and balance in their reportage, and engage in open and transparent communication to build trust in their audience.
“By doing so, they can enhance the credibility of their organisations and contribute to a well-informed society”, she added.
