Arabic graduate unveils book to mark Convocation

A fresh graduate of the Department of Arabic and Transnational Studies, University of Ilorin, Mr Habeeb Babatunde Mufutau (Minteeq), last Wednesday (October 21, 2026) unveiled a book titled “Between Light and Mirror”, to mark his graduation from the University.

The event, which was held at the premises of Alangua Tanke Compound, Ilorin, attracted several relations, friends and colleagues of the author.

In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, Mr Mufutau, who graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division) degree, said that he decided to write the book appreciation of the essence and impact of authorship on his life.

The Arabist said that he combined the launching of the book with his convocation because he wanted it to make a significant landmark in his new journey and for it to be a stepping stone in the field of academic like his lecturers.

The Unilorite said that it is a collection of Arabic poetry borne from his inner experiences, reflections, emotions, memories, and aspirations.

Mr Mufutau, who hails from Oke-Onijo in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, explained that the collection emerged from a desire to give poetic expression to what could not otherwise find its way into existence through ordinary language.

He added that the title of the book embodies the central vision of the collection: light represents insight, faith, hope, and every meaning that awakens consciousness and opens a window through the walls of darkness, while the mirror represents the poet himself—with his joys and sorrows, questions and memories, love and loss, faith and aspirations.

Mr Mufutau added that the collection embraces a diverse range of themes, including Arabic language and literature, faith, patriotism, nature, love, loss, mourning, memory, and self-reflection. Its apparent diversity reflects the complexity of human experience, in which different emotions and seasons of life continually intersect.
