The Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, has reaffirmed the commitment of his Administration to investing in education as a strategic pathway to sustainable development, social mobility and economic growth.
The Governor stated this last Friday (October 23,2026) in his address at the 41st Convocation Ceremony of the University of Ilorin held at the University Auditorium.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, the Governor said education remained the most reliable pathway to a prosperous future, stressing that his Administration had continued to prioritise the sector as a catalyst for individual and societal development.
He said the vision of his administration for education went beyond the construction of physical infrastructure, noting that meaningful investment must also address teaching quality, curriculum relevance, research strength and institutional capacity.
According to him, the comprehensive approach was designed to prepare young people for the demands of a rapidly changing world and equip them with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to contribute meaningfully to society.
The Governor highlighted some of the achievements of his Administration in the education sector, including the completion of the Law Complex at Kwara State University (KWASU) and the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education to strengthen teacher training and improve educator preparedness.
He also highlighted the administration’s strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), to upgrade learning facilities, equip laboratories with modern resources and advance digital learning systems at the basic education level.
On students’ welfare, the Governor said the Administration had sustained its bursary and scholarship programmes to expand access to education and reduce the financial burden on students and their families.

He commended the management, Governing Council, Senate, lecturers and other members of staff of the University of Ilorin for their commitment to maintaining high academic standards.
The Governor particularly acknowledged the recent achievement of the University as Nigeria’s top-ranking institution for research quality, describing the feat as a demonstration of its commitment to scholarship, research and innovation.
He congratulated the graduating students on their hard work, discipline and sacrifices, while also commending their parents, guardians and educators for their unwavering support throughout their academic journey.
The Governor urged the graduates to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at the University with integrity, creativity and discipline, particularly in addressing challenges confronting their communities and the wider society.
He advised them to see their education not merely as a means of securing employment but as a platform for creating opportunities, developing solutions and contributing to the development of Kwara State and Nigeria.
The Kwara State Government, the Governor assured, would continue to partner with educational institutions and other stakeholders to enhance academic standards, widen access to quality education and foster a thriving and prosperous society.
