Other members of the newly inaugurated Executive Committee are Dr Victor Olusegun Babatunde, Vice-Chairman I; Mrs. Olatundun Kehinde, Vice-Chairman II; Dr Temidayo O. Bankole, Secretary; Mrs Ololu Halimat, Assistant Secretary; Dr Yusuf A. Sholola, Public Relations Officer; Mr. Mumeen AbdulHameed, Assistant Public Relations Officer; Mr Fatiu Olorungbebe, Financial Secretary; and Dr Monsurat M. Wonuola, Treasurer.

The Executive Committee also comprises Mr Habeeb Daranijo, Mobilising Officer for Kwara North; Mr Thanni Maimasa, Mobilising Officer for Kwara Central; Mr Samuel Areh, Mobilising Officer for Kwara South; and Mr Ibrahim Ibukun, Auditor.

In his inaugural speech, Prof. Adisa identified professional development, membership expansion, collaboration and the promotion of communication scholarship and practice as key priorities of his administration. He expressed gratitude to the national leadership and members for the confidence reposed in the new Executive Committee.

Prof. Adisa said his administration would be guided by service, continuity, professionalism, collaboration and measurable impact.

He explained that the chapter would consolidate the capacity-building programme initiated more than a month before the inauguration, while continuing to draw on the guidance and support of the association’s Vice-President, North-Central, Prof. Lukman Azeez.

Prof. Adisa further disclosed that the Chapter had begun mobilising communication scholars and practitioners across Kwara State to register with the national body before its formal inauguration, resulting in the registration of more than 20 professionals.

He added that the Executive  Committee would intensify its membership drive, encourage departmental registration of students across higher institutions in the state and engage senior professionals in the communication industry to broaden the association’s professional base.

Prof. Adisa called on members to regard the new leadership as a collective responsibility, expressing confidence that collaboration and sustained professional engagement would make the Kwara Chapter more visible, intellectually vibrant and professionally relevant.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Executive Committee to strengthening the Chapter, creating meaningful value for members and contributing to the advancement of communication scholarship and professional practice in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the former Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), University of Ilorin, and Vice-President, North-Central, of ACSPN, Prof. Adesina Lukman Azeez, who oversees the Association’s chapters across the zone, described the inauguration as timely and long overdue. He noted that it marked a significant milestone in consolidating the Kwara Chapter’s activities and institutional presence.

Prof. Azeez commended the Chapter for its commitment, visibility and steady progress, urging other chapters in the North-Central zone to emulate its organisational drive, strengthen their structures and encourage greater member participation. He expressed optimism that the achievements of the Chapter would inspire other state chapters and contribute to a more active and professionally engaged association at zonal and national levels.

In his presentation, the former Kwara State Commissioner for Information and inaugural lecturer, Mr Raheem Adedoyin, highlighted the interconnected roles of journalism, communication and governance in societal development. He observed that journalism informs society, communication connects society, while governance provides direction.

Mr Adedoyin emphasised the constitutional responsibility of the Nigerian media to promote accountability and public responsibility, stressing that journalism should neither become an institutional opponent of government nor abandon its duty to expose wrongdoing.

According to him, the media should fairly report government achievements while also bringing failures to public attention in the interest of the society.

Mr Adedoyin noted that communication was indispensable to good governance, explaining that even well-conceived policies could become disconnected from citizens if they did not understand what government was doing, why the policies were being implemented and how they affected their lives.

He warned that journalism without responsibility could become noise, communication without credibility could degenerate into propaganda, while governance without accountability could become detached from the people.
