The Vice Chancellor of the Northwest University, Sokoto, Prof. Mukthar Umar Bunza, has commended the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on ensuring that the University is adequately powered with electricity.

Prof. Bunza gave this commendation last Thursday (October 8, 2026) while delivering the 2nd Is-haq Oloyede Annual Humanities Lecture, titled “The Sokoto Caliphate’s Intellectual Legacy and the Future of Humanities in Nigeria”, organised by the Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, at the University Auditorium.

The Vice Chancellor, who is a former Kebbi State Commissioner for Higher Education, said that from the information he gathered, Prof. Egbewole has  demonstrated fascinating leadership by ensuring that the University of Ilorin is always provided with electricity despite the huge and incredible bills payable on public power supply.

He said that while the electricity bill kept increasing, the revenue available to universities to settle such bills is steadily decreasing because of other competing needs.

Prof. Bunza, who is an expert in social and religious history, said that many university administrators across Nigeria are finding it very difficult to maintain steady power supply to their campuses and that it was, therefore, a source of joy for him that Prof. Egbewole has found a way out of the problem for the University of Ilorin.

He encouraged Prof. Egbewole to continue to do his best to ensure better service delivery to the University and remain a role-model among his peers.
