Belgore hails UNILORIN CILS
By Abubakar Imam
A distinguished statesman and Chairman of the Ilorin Emirate Zakat and Sadaqat Committee, Engr Saad Belgore, has commended the authorities of the University of Ilorin for establishing the Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS).
Engr Belgore gave this commendation penultimate Thursday (September 24, 2026) when he visited the gallery of the Centre.
He said that the establishment of the Centre was not only thoughtful but also meaningful as it would assist in collating, propagating and preserving the Ilorin Emirate heritages while promoting cordial relationship between the University and its host community.
Engr Belgore, who traced the historical origin, spread and contributions of the Belgore dynasty towards the development of the Ilorin Emirate and the nation at large, said that he was very much impressed with what he saw at the Centre.
He, therefore, pledged the support of the entire members of the Belgore dynasty towards equipping the Centre with more relevant materials that would enhance its service delivery.
Engr Belgore said that his visit was to reciprocate the earlier visit of the management of the Centre to him some weeks earlier. He encouraged other privileged individuals and organisations as well as families across and beyond the Ilorin Emirate to support the Centre with donation of relevant archival materials in their possession.
Speaking earlier, the Director of the Centre, Prof. Ali Arazeem Abdullahi, thanked Engr Belgore for the visit, which, he said, was quite stimulating and encouraging.
The Director also expressed his gratitude to Engr Belgore for providing insights into the history of the famous family and information on several of its past and surviving members, saying that the interactions the Centre had with him would be preserved for future consultations by all those who desire to know more about the family that produced several prominent figures in Islamic scholarship, law and public service.
Prof. Abdullahi was joined to receive Engr Belgore by his Deputy, Dr Mahmud Danjuma; and other staff members of the Centre.
