Egbewole reaffirms UNILORIN’s commitment to U6+ Consortium

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has reaffirmed the commitment of the University to the ideals, values and objectives of the U6+ Consortium, pledging continued support for the growth and development of the international academic collaboration.
Prof. Egbewole stated this in a goodwill message delivered at the 10th International Conference of the Consortium held at the University of Eldoret, Kenya, between September 8 and September 11, 2026.
The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU), said that the University of Ilorin, as a critical stakeholder in the establishment of the U6+ Consortium, recognises the importance of collaboration among universities in promoting meaningful academic engagement and advancing the purpose for which universities were established.
He expressed optimism that the Conference would provide an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas, connect the conference theme with the ideals of the U6+ Consortium, and develop practical and implementable solutions capable of strengthening higher education and contributing to Africa’s development.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Vice President (West Africa) of the Association of African Universities (AAU), equally commended the Vice Chancellor of the University of Eldoret and the Local Organising Committee for organising the conference as he described the event as a valuable platform for academic interactions.
He noted that the University of Ilorin was pleased to participate in the Conference and expressed optimism that participants would return home with positive experiences and fond memories of the gathering.
Other members of the UNILORIN delegation at the Conference include the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtair Adeiza Etudaiye; the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. T. A. Olaniyi; a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Emeritus Prof. Musibau Akanji; the U6+ Desk Officer, Dr Biliqis Abiola Lawal; the Director of the Centre for Cultural Studies and Creative Arts, Dr A. A. Adebisi; and Dr Halimat Funmilayo Babamale of the Department of Industrial Chemistry, among others.
