UNILORIN, Interswitch sign MoU on digital payment gateway

The University of Ilorin and Interswitch Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate the Interswitch Payment Gateway (IPG) into the University’s digital infrastructure and designated platforms, in a move aimed at strengthening the institution’s electronic payment system and improving the experience of its clients.
The signing took place last Monday (August 31, 2026) during a meeting that took place in the Committee Room of the Vice Chancellor’s Office.
The partnership will enable the University to receive payments through a secure, web-based and mobile-compatible payment gateway integrated into its portal and other designated platforms. Under the agreement, Interswitch will provide the required technical resources for the integration and implement the project within the timelines to be agreed upon in the project initiation document.
In his remarks at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, appreciated Interswitch for its commitment to the agreement and expressed optimism that the partnership would improve the payment processes of the University. He acknowledged that transitioning from an existing system could present challenges but expressed hope that the process would be seamless and produce better results for the University.
Prof. Egbewole stressed the need for a more responsive and transparent payment system that would provide the University with timely feedback on its processes and enable relevant officials to identify and resolve issues more effectively. He expressed confidence that the partnership would be beneficial to both institutions and contribute to the digital transformation agenda of the Unuverrsity.
Speaking earlier, the Regional Head of Interswitch, Mr Eloho Okiomah, expressed the company’s delight at partnering with the University, noting that, Interswitch had maintained a longstanding relationship with the institution. He assured the University of the company’s commitment to providing an improved and efficient payment experience through the new partnership.
On her part, the Director of the Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT) of the University, Prof. Sidikat Aderinoye-Abdulwahab, described the agreement as an opportunity to establish a useful and mutually beneficial relationship between the University and Interswitch. She disclosed that the MoU would run for an initial period of 24 months.
Joining the Vice Chancellor at the signing were the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal; the Acting Director of the Legal Unit, Mrs Fareedat Funmilayo Sheriff; and a staff member of the University’s Legal Unit, Miss Zainab Laaro. Also in attendance were Mr. Atere Oluwafemi and Mr Gegele Bolakale, both staff members of Interswitch.
