UNILORIN Senate okays 10,141 students for 2025/2026 graduation
…approves proposed statute for Postgraduate College

The Senate of the University of Ilorin has approved the results of 10,141 students who have fulfilled the academic requirements for the award of various first degrees for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The approval was the major highlight of the 312th meeting of the University Senate held last Monday (August 31, 2026) at the Senate Chamber of the University, which was presided over by the Chairman of Senate and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.
In addition to the first-degree results, the Senate also considered and approved results covering various categories of postgraduate and professional programmes, including Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master degree, Professional Master degree of the Institute of Education and the University’s affiliated institutions.
Presenting the results, which covered graduating students from the various Faculties and programmes of the University to Senate, the Chairman of the Business Committee of Senate (BCoS) and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, took members through the results submitted for consideration and approval.
Following the presentation, Senate thoroughly considered the results and subsequently approved them as presented.
The approval represents a major step in the completion of the academic processes for the 2025/2026 graduating set and brings the concerned students closer to participating in the forthcoming 41st Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled for October 2026.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Senate and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, has appealed to Level Advisers, Heads of Departments and Faculty authorities with outstanding results to ensure that such results are processed, reconciled and submitted before the next meeting of Senate.
Prof Egbewole, who made the appeal while explaining the importance of concluding all outstanding academic processes ahead of the 41st Convocation Ceremonies, urged the concerned academic officers to treat the matter as a priority and ensure that no student who had fulfilled the requirements for graduation is left out of the forthcoming convocation due to avoidable delays in the processing or submission of results.
According to him, the University is committed to ensuring that all qualified candidates are given the opportunity to graduate at the appropriate time, adding that the timely processing of results remains critical to effective academic administration.
In another development, the Senate of the University of Ilorin has also considered and approved the report of the Committee on the Preparation of Statute for the Postgraduate College and recommended that the proposed statute be forwarded to the University Governing Council for consideration, and subsequently to the Visitor to the University, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for final approval and gazetting.
While presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee on the Preparation of Statutes for the Postgraduate College, Prof. Ibrahim Kayode Adam, said that the proposed statute should be processed in accordance with Section 10 of the University of Ilorin Act, 2004 (as amended), through the Senate, Council and the President for approval, after which the approved statute should be duly gazetted.
The Committee also recommended that the University should determine the level of autonomy desired for its Colleges and ensure that such autonomy is appropriately reflected in the relevant statutes.
The report proposed that the Postgraduate College should be headed by a Provost, who would serve as the academic and administrative head of the College. It further provided that the Provost should be a Professor elected by the Senate, with only candidates who possess a Ph.D. degree eligible for election. The Provost would hold office for a term of two years, commencing on the first day of August of the year in which he or she is elected.
The Committee, through its Chairman, Prof. Adam, expressed appreciation to the University Management for giving it the opportunity to serve on what it described as a special assignment, noting that the members were grateful for the confidence reposed in them in the preparation of the proposed statute.
