As the Muslim world last Tuesday (August 25, 2026) marked the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him), the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated members of the University’s Muslim community for witnessing this year’s edition of the festival.

In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor described Prophet Muhammad as one of the most outstanding personalities who ever walked on the surface of the earth.

The Vice Chancellor stated that Prophet Muhammad was more than a religious leader but a phenomenally timeless figure who impacted on every aspect of life, saying that his teachings are still relevant as they were during his lifetime.

Prof. Egbewole said that the birthday of an individual like Prophet Muhammad should be marked not just on a specific day of the year but everyday through strict adherence to his timeless teachings, which include fidelity, service, honesty, patriotism, and integrity.

The Vice Chancellor, who is also a Member of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, expressed the conviction that if members of the nation’s Muslim community could relate with others as exemplified in the life and times of Prophet Muhammad the story of the country would be remarkably different.

Prof. Egbewole assured members of the University community that his Administration would continue to encourage peaceful coexistence among adherents of different faiths.
