NAUS President applauds UNILORIN’s efforts to ease students’ transportation challenges

The National President of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Dr Meschach Anthony Nwankwo (DVM), has commended the management of the University of Ilorin on its tireless efforts to address the transportation challenges facing the students of the institution.
Dr Nwankwo gave the commendation last Thursday (August 6, 2026), during an official visit to the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, in his office.
He said that NAUS was ready to support the University in that regard, adding that the serene environment of the campus was quite impressive.
The NAUS President noted that the University had maintained impressive academic records and very stable academic calendar, while avoiding unnecessary strikes.
He assured the University community that NAUS would do everything within its capacity to support the University to ensure that it maintains its position and sustains continuity in its academic activities.
Dr Nwankwo also commended the University management on the various projects being executed by the University and described the general disposition of the students as encouraging.
The NAUS President further appreciated the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, for what he called his “fantastic handling of the image building and reputation management of the University. “
He also commended the efforts of members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), University of Ilorin Chapter, under the leadership of its Chairman, Mr Adewoyin Adekola Tijani, in keeping the public informed about the activities and achievements of the institution.
Dr Nwankwo, however, called on the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to contribute her quota to the educational reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through her Foundation.
He said, “I appeal passionately, being proud of you and also aware of your donations of CNG buses, tricycles and scholarship programmes under your Foundation. I still expect you to do more in terns of executing some projects in the institution to complement the effort of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s educational reform agenda”.
In his remarks, the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) for its commendation of the University, its students, and the Directorate.
Mr Akogun described the NAUS President’s remarks as a true reflection of the cordial relationship between the University Management and the student community.
He assured Dr Nwankwo that the University remains committed to sustaining an environment that promotes dialogue, mutual respect, and academic excellence.
The Director explained that the University Management operates an open-door policy, likening its relationship with students to that of a father and his children, while acknowledging that students are responsible adults who are entitled to their opinions.
He stressed that students have every right to channel their grievances through appropriate means, assuring them that such concerns would always receive due consideration in order to prevent unnecessary conflicts.
Using the relocation of the University Park to the Main Gate as an example, Mr. Akogun noted that the decision, though initially met with concerns, had ultimately benefited the students while aligning with the institution’s master plan to enhance campus security and improve the University’s aesthetic appeal.
