Abdulbaqi tasks new CISSA EXCO on performance

The Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), University of Ilorin, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, has charged the newly inaugurated Executive Committee of the Communication and Information Science Students Association (CISSA) to uphold positive virtues and build on the achievements and legacies of their predecessors.
Prof. Abdulbaqi gave the charge last Tuesday(August 4, 2026) during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the new CISSA Executive Council at the Faculty Boardroom.
She urged the new executives to work diligently and demonstrate responsible leadership so as to sustain the progress recorded by the Association and ensure that the flag of the Faculty continues to fly high.
The Dean also advised them to maintain a cordial relationship with their predecessors, noting that such collaboration would enable them to build effectively on the achievements already recorded by the Association.
Prof. Abdulbaqi described the administration of the outgoing CISSA President, Mr Sanni Nurudeen Akorede, and his team as proactive and innovative, noting that they consistently introduced relevant ideas aimed at advancing the Faculty and improving students’ well-being.
According to her, the former students’ leader was ambitious and committed to implementing projects and initiatives that contributed to the development of the Faculty. She added that his administration embraced teamwork and collaboration in achieving its objectives.
Prof. Abdulbaqi, therefore, urged the incoming Executive Committee to uphold positive virtues and implement initiatives capable of further developing the Faculty.
She also appreciated the student body for entrusting the new EXCO with the responsibility of representing their interests, stressing that the confidence reposed in them came with a duty to protect and justify the trust.
“Do not disappoint them, and do not disappoint us. Whenever you need help or guidance, come closer to the Faculty Management; you will be guided,” she advised.
The Dean further urged the new Executive Committee to sustain and build upon the existing legacies of previous CISSA administrations while ensuring that their tenure leaves a positive and lasting mark on the Faculty.t
Members of the newly inaugurated CISSA Executive Committee include the President, Mr Koforiji Abayomi Waris, Department of Mass Communication; Vice President, Miss Shanu Mariam Oluwabunmi, Department of Computer Science; General Secretary, Mr Odeniyi David Dideolu, Department of Library and Information Science; Assistant General Secretary, Mr Adelaja Elijah Omotayo, Department of Telecommunication Science; and Welfare Secretary, Mr Abdulrasheed Abayomi Ishola, Department of Telecommunication Science.
Others are the Public Relations Officer I, Mr Fiki Kehinde Elisha, Department of Information Technology; Public Relations Officer II, Miss Mustapha Ololade Firdauz, Department of Computer Science; Financial Secretary, Miss Oladejo Mary Oluwadarasimi, Department of Library and Information Science; Social Director, Miss Shanu Mariam Oluwabunmi, Department of Computer Science; and Software Director, Miss Favour Jacobs, Department of Information Technology.
In his remarks, the new CISSA President, Mr Koforiji Abayomi Waris, said students of Communication and Information Sciences occupied a unique position in society, stressing that their decisions and innovations should be guided by wisdom and aimed at improving people’s lives.
He said, “As students of Communication, we occupy a unique place in society. Our greatest communication must be through our decisions, yet we must be informed by wisdom. As students of technology, our innovation must improve people’s lives.”
According to him, “If communication shapes society and information powers decisions, we must aspire not merely to produce graduates, but to produce professionals, innovators and leaders whose impact extends far beyond the classroom.”
He added, “To every student, this belongs to you. Your ideas, questions, innovations and even your constructive criticism are welcomed because leadership becomes stronger when it listens.”
