Unilorin Students Union honours Akanmu, Alooma, 23 others

It was encomiums galore last Tuesday, (July 28, 2026) at the Multipurpose Hall of the University of Ilorin as the Students Union honoured 25 distinguished personalities for their contributions to student welfare and the growth of the university community.
Among the honourees were the General Manager of UNILORIN 89.3 FM, Mr Idris Alooma, Mr Yinka Soliu Mogajinda; the Ag. Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Alex Morenikeji Akanmu, Toyes Tech; student leaders; friends of the Union; and other stakeholders.
The epoch-making event was organised by the immediate past Students Union Executive Committee led by Mr Adelu Ayomo Idris to appreciate individuals and groups that supported the Union.
In his remarks, the Ag. Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Alex Morenikeji Akanmu, praised the immediate past Students Union leaders for their innovation. He described the University of Ilorin as a distinct ivory tower where management always considers the wellbeing of students and staff before taking decisions. He said the all-round qualities of the University are why the “Better By Far” mantra reflects on all its graduates, and that every member of the University community is its ambassador.
He advised the newly inaugurated Students Union leadership to emulate the good virtues of their predecessors.
In his remarks, the immediate past President, Mr Adelu Ayomo Idris, said the event was organised to appreciate the contributions of those who made the success of the union possible.
