Adam inaugurated as 39th UNILORIN SU President
…Egbewole calls for purposeful service

The former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the University of Ilorin Students’ Union, Mr Mozeed Adam, has been inaugurated as the 39th President of the Union, succeeding Comrade Adelu Idris Ayomo.
Mr Adam, a 400-level student of the Faculty of. Law, was inaugurated last Tuesday (July 28, 2026) alongside other members of the Central Executive Council, Senators and Hall Representatives, while Muritala Sayi (Senator Sarali), Senator Ola, Senator Amir (Capacity) and Senator Hamdallah were inaugurated as Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Clerk and Deputy Clerk, respectively, for the 2026/2027 Students’ Union Administration.
Presenting the keynote address, titled “From Election to Impact: A Call to Purposeful Leadership,” the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, congratulated the new officers and reminded them that leadership is measured not by electoral victory but by the quality of service rendered after assuming office.
He described the inauguration as the beginning of a new responsibility, saying that the confidence reposed in the new officers by thousands of students must be justified through responsible and purposeful leadership.
Prof. Egbewole noted that the new administration was the fourth Students’ Union government during his tenure and commended previous administrations for sustaining the “Better by Far” tradition of the University. He urged the officers to shun the distractions of popularity and social media, embrace dialogue, accountability and integrity, and focus on leaving a legacy of impactful service while assuring them of the continued support of the University management.
Also speaking, the Ag. Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Morenikeji Alex Akanmu, congratulated the newly inaugurated officers and charged them to serve with humility, discipline, transparency and accountability. He urged them to maintain cordial relations with the University Management, promote peace and unity among students, and always embrace dialogue in resolving issues affecting students’ welfare.
Dr Akanmu also commended the outgoing Administration and expressed confidence that the new leadership would consolidate on its achievements.
In his valedictory speech, the immediate past President, Comrade Adelu Idris Ayomo, described his Administration as one driven by responsive leadership, accountability and collaboration with the University Management. He highlighted his achievements as including the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, a 50 per cent reduction in school charges for Pharmacy students, renovation of the Students’ Union Building with a 24-hour solar-powered electricity supply, improved hostel facilities, establishment of the Students’ Union Cheap, Neat and Nice (CNN) Spot, 24-hour library services during examinations, free training in Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Web Development and Product Design, health and entrepreneurship programmes, sporting activities and improved documentation and communication.
Mr Adelu urged the incoming Administration to preserve institutional memory, uphold transparency and prioritise students’ welfare, while appreciating the University Management, members of staff, student leaders, volunteers, development partners, members of the press and students for their support throughout his tenure.
In his inaugural address, Mr Mozeed Adam unveiled “The Legacy” Administration, describing it as a vision to build enduring institutions, create opportunities and positively impact students’ lives. He said the Administration would address welfare challenges through innovation, competence, empathy and responsible leadership.
He announced a five-point governing philosophy anchored on empowerment, coordinated governance, welfare-driven representation, communication and engagement, and responsible leadership. He pledged to expand access to scholarships, entrepreneurship, mentorship, digital skills, leadership development and career opportunities while strengthening collaboration with Faculty associations, student organisations and the University Management. He also promised transparent governance, improved welfare, support for sports, talent development and innovation.
According to Mr Adam,”Our aspiration is that when this administration concludes its stewardship, Unilorites will remember not merely those who held office, but the opportunities that were created, the institutions that were strengthened, the lives that were touched and the values that were restored. That is the legacy we seek to build.”
Also in his acceptance speech, the Senate President of the 13th Assembly, Muritala Sayi (Senator Sarali), thanked fellow senators for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to lead the Assembly with integrity, fairness and diligence. He promised to promote unity, collaboration and effective legislative oversight. He commended the University Management for fostering academic excellence and leadership development, and urged senators to place service above self and work together to build a lasting legacy for students.
The ceremony was attended by Principal Officers of the University, members of staff of the Student Affairs Unit, members of the Legal Unit of the University, members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara State Axis, led by its Chairman, Comrade Yussuf Abulkodri Eleburu, past Students’ Union leaders, alumni, and student leaders, among others.
