VC charges COMSIT on Blueprint implementation

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has charged staff members of the Directorate of Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT) to remain committed to implementing its newly unveiled Blueprint.
Prof. Egbewole gave the charge last Monday (July 27, 2026) at the University Auditorium during the unveiling of the Blueprint, which he described as a strategic framework for sustaining excellence, strengthening institutional performance and advancing the global aspirations of the University.
He commended the Directorate for producing the document through a broad consultative process involving its Deputy Directors, heads of units and members of staff, stressing that collective ownership remains the foundation for its successful implementation.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the Blueprint, which outlines key performance indicators for the Directorate’s 12 units, represents an enduring legacy that should guide COMSIT beyond the tenure of its current leadership.
He expressed confidence that whoever succeeds the present Director would build on the foundation already laid and move the Directorate to greater heights.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also a member of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, urged staff to translate the Blueprint from a well-written document into practical results, noting that policies only become meaningful when faithfully implemented. He reminded members of staff that every office holder would one day leave office, adding that the true measure of leadership lies in the positive legacies left behind.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria also urged staff members of COMSIT to remain committed to the effective implementation of the Blueprint, stressing that its success would be measured by how well it transforms the operations of the Directorate and contributes to the overall strategic goals of the University.
He said the document should serve as a practical guide for improved service delivery, accountability and innovation, expressing confidence that its faithful execution would strengthen the capacity of the Directorate to meet the evolving technological needs of the University and sustain its reputation for excellence.
The Vice Chancellor, who is also the convener and Chairman of the Consortium of Kwara Universities(KU8+), also appreciated the Director, Deputy Directors and members of the implementation committee for their dedication to the assignment and called on all COMSIT personnel to place the interest of the University above personal considerations. He maintained that sustained commitment, teamwork and accountability are essential to preserving the reputation of the institution as a globally competitive University.
The outgoing Director of COMSIT, Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, explained that the restructuring of the Directorate into 12 specialised units was designed to simplify operations, enhance efficiency and ensure faster service delivery to members of the University community. He noted that the new structure clearly defines the responsibilities of each unit, thereby promoting accountability, improved coordination and prompt response to the ICT needs of staff, students and other stakeholders.
Prof. Jimoh, who teaches at the Department of Computer Science, disclosed that the Directorate developed a comprehensive operational blueprint during a management retreat, where Deputy Directors and Heads of Units critically reviewed global best practices and adapted them to the unique operational environment of the University.
According to him, the document has since passed through the University’s approval processes and now serves as the official guide for the Directorate’s activities.
Prof. Jimoh, who is also a former Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, added that the Blueprint would provide stakeholders with a better understanding of the services offered by the newly created units and the appropriate channels for accessing them. He expressed confidence that the document would strengthen collaboration across the University and improve the quality of ICT support available to all users.
The Director, who is also the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of Muhammad Kamalud-deen University, Ilorin, further announced that COMSIT would commence University-wide training on electronic mail and the e-ticketing platform before the end of the week to further enhance digital service delivery. He commended the Deputy Directors, Heads of Units and members of staff of the Directorate for their dedication and contributions towards the successful development and implementation of the Blueprint.
Prof. Jimoh added that as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery, the Centre for Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT) operates through 12 specialised functional units. These include the Portal Unit, Network Unit, Support Unit, Training Unit, Cybersecurity and Multimedia Unit, Email Unit, Hardware and Repair Unit, Web Services Unit, Computer-Based Test (CBT) Unit, Webmaster Unit, IT Officers Unit, and Innovation Unit, with each unit playing a strategic role in supporting the University’s digital infrastructure, ICT services, research, training, and technological innovation.
Also present at the event were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Olalere Adeyemi; the Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Research Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the University Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal, the outgoing Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Biodun Sulyman Alabi; Deans, Directors of various units and staff members of the Directorate and the University.
