A Deputy Registrar at the  University of Ilorin, Mrs Azeezat Q. Ibrahim, has urged  non-teaching staff of the University to embrace performance management, adaptability and effective time management to drive institutional excellence.

The Deputy Registrar (Vice Chancellor’s Office)  gave the charge last Tuesday (July 21, 2026) while delivering a paper at a training session organised by Unilorin Holdings at the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, Ilorin.

The Deputy Registrar said universities now operate in a competitive environment shaped by digital transformation, AI and rising stakeholder expectations.

She described performance management as a tool for enabling excellence, not policing staff. “It is about creating a culture where every staff member understands their role and seeks better ways of serving students,” she stated, adding that poor performance shows up as delayed records and missed deadlines, and recommended training and process improvement as solutions.

On change management, Mrs Ibrahim noted that technology, reforms and new workplace practices are changing universities fast.

Speaking on productivity, Mrs. Ibrahim urged staff to plan, prioritise and avoid time wasters like poor planning and excessive meetings.

She said effective time and task management will lead to faster service delivery, less stress and a better institutional image.

In her closing remarks, Mrs Ibrahim called for continuous learning and smarter ways of working. “Our University can only be as effective as the quality of our daily work. Success comes from doing the right things, at the right time, in the right order,” she said.

The workshop is part of effort of the University to align staff performance with strategic goals.
