Isiaka urges inter-agency cooperation to reduce vandalism

The Ag. Head of the Department of Criminology and Security Studies, University of Ilorin, Dr Monsurat Isiaka, has called for proper coordination and strengthening of cooperation among security agencies to ensure better protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructures(CNAI).
Dr Isiaka made this call recently while delivering a paper, titled “Protection of CNAI: Panacea to National Development” at the 2026 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command Security Summit in Ilorin.
The don also urged the Federal Government and other stakeholders to always ensure the timely implementation of policies, reconstruction of the nation’s security architecture and strengthening of anti-corruption policies and measures as well as the recruitment of more staff into the nation’s security agencies.
While commending the gallantry of the Kwara State Command of the NSCDC in the protection of the nation’s assets and mineral resources across the state, Dr Isiaka noted that the task cannot be solely shouldered by the NSCDC.
The Ag. Head of Department, who expressed dismay with the huge loss the nation is incurring from the vandalisation of its assets by all sorts of criminals, noted that more than 200 billion dollars worth of assets were vandalised across the nation between 1999 and 2022.
She added that the implementation of her suggestions would reduce this huge loss as he said that the educational, health, energy and power sectors were the worst hit.
The security expert explained that the protection of national assets and infrastructures would enhance sustainable national development as it would reduce the amount of money the nation commits to repairing and replacing vandalised assets.
The event was attended by many dignitaries including the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Abass Nda Mohammed; and the Kwara State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs Bola Olukoju, among others.
