UNILORIN FM pays congratulatory visit to Ilorin new Chief Imam

The management of UNILORIN 89.3FM has paid a congratulatory visit to the newly appointed 13th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Bashir Dasuki following his recent appointment as the spiritual leader of the Ilorin Emirate.
The visit, led by the General Manager of the better- by-far radio station, Mr Idris Akintola Alooma, took place last Tuesday (June 23, 2026) at the Chief Imam’s family house in Sanni Okin area of Ilorin.
Speaking during the visit, the General Manager congratulated Sheikh Dasuki on his appointment, describing him as a worthy choice due to his sound knowledge of Islam, western education and exemplary character.
Mr Alooma noted that the new Chief Imam had been a regular guest on UNILORIN 89.3FM, where he consistently preached messages of peace and religious harmony.
He conveyed the goodwill of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, to the new Chief Imam, assuring him of the station’s continued support.
According to him, UNILORIN FM would provide free coverage of the Chief Imam’s major religious activities, including Juma’ah sermons, Eid celebrations and other significant programmes to ensure wider dissemination of his messages of love, unity and general motivation.
Mr Alooma also disclosed that the Chief Imam would be invited to the station after his official turbaning ceremony to address listeners and share his vision for the Muslim community.
In his response, the Chief Imam expressed his appreciation to the management and staff of UNILORIN FM for the visit and their support. He prayed for the continued growth and success of the University at large.
The Chief Imam recalled the role of a Principal Registrar at the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, Ilorin, Barrister Abdulmalik Imam-Fulani, who facilitated his engagement with the station, noting that his participation in the station’s programmes had been very rewarding.
Other members of the delegation were the presenter of Al-Irshad programme on UNILORIN FM, Mr Abdulrasheed Modele; the Production Editor of UNILORIN Bulletin, Mr Mustafa Abubakar; and the Chairman of the UNILORIN Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Tijani Adekola Adewoyin.
