Faculty of Law engages students on academic excellence, examination conduct

The Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, has engaged students of the Faculty as part of efforts aimed at strengthening communication between them and the Faculty management while addressing academic concerns ahead of the forthcoming Rain Semester examinations.
Speaking during the interactive session penultimate Friday (June 19, 2026) at the Old Moot Court, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Bashiru Adeniyi Omipidan, explained that the programme was an initiative he introduced upon assumption of office to create a direct platform for engagement between students and the Faculty leadership.
According to Prof. Omipidan, the programme was designed to provide students with the opportunity to freely express their views, give honest feedback on the performances of lecturers, identify challenges affecting their academic activities and suggest possible solutions that could improve the learning environment within the Faculty.
The Dean recalled that the maiden edition of the programme was held during the last semester, noting that the latest gathering represented the second and final interactive session for the current academic session.
Prof. Omipidan added that beyond listening to students’ concerns, Faculty management would also use the opportunity to engage students extensively on expectations ahead of the upcoming Rain Semester examinations as he emphasised discipline, proper conduct and strict adherence to examination regulations.
Prof. Omipidan appreciated students and Faculty members for their active participation, reaffirming that the Town Hall initiative remains part of the commitment of the Faculty to ensuring a more inclusive, responsive and student-friendly academic system within the University of Ilorin.
The interactive meeting also featured contributions from Heads of Departments and senior academic staff members of the Faculty who addressed students on different aspects of academic life and examination conduct.
Among them was the Head of the Department of Public Law, Dr Razaq Adebimpe, who emphasised the importance of adequate preparation for examinations and encouraged students to remain committed to their studies while taking advantage of available academic support structures within the Faculty.
On his part, the Head of the Department of Private and Property Law, Dr Olatunji Solomon, spoke on examination ethics. He warned students against all forms of examination malpractice while stressing the importance of integrity and personal responsibility during examinations.
In her remarks, the Head of the Department of Islamic Law, Prof. Azizat Omotoyosi Amoloye-Adebayo, who was represented by a Lecturer in ⁶the Department, Mrs Kawthar-Hamzat Umar, reminded students of the need for proper conduct within the examination environment and highlighted the consequences attached to misconduct and violations of University regulations.
Also speaking, the Head of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, Dr Oluwabunmi Lucy Niyi-Gafar, who was represented by Dr Barakat Raji, admonished students on the importance of complying with dress code of the University. She also urged them to adhere strictly to approved University guidelines and conduct themselves responsibly throughout the examination period.
Students present at the session actively participated by sharing concerns relating to teaching, learning experiences and other academic challenges affecting their studies.
Faculty management, in response, assured the students of continued commitment to addressing their legitimate concerns and improving the overall academic environment.
