Stay away from examinations irregularities, AbdusSalam urges Unilorites

As the Rain Semester examinations of the 2025/2026 academic session commence at the University of Ilorin this week, the Chief Imam of the University Central Mosque, Prof. Nasir AbdusSalam, has urged students and staff members of the University to distance themselves from examinations malpractices.

The Chief Imam gave this advice penultimate Friday (June 19, 2026) while delivering a Jumaat sermon at the University Central Mosque.

Prof. AbdusSalam, whose sermon centred on the significance of the Hijrah (historic migration) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad from Makkah to Madinah about 1500 years ago, said that examinations malpractice of any kind was absolutely wrong and that every Muslim worth the description should neither practise  nor encourage it.

The cleric-don, who is also a former Director of the General Studies Division of the University, said that examination malpractice is so odious that no self-respecting person should get himself or herself involved.

The Chief Imam said that Hijrah is not just relocation from one physical point to another by an individual or a group of people but also an abandonment of every form of wrong doing.

Prof. AbdusSalam, who teaches at the Department of Chemistry, urged the students to prepare adequately for the examinations, saying that anyone who prepares adequately has no reason whatsoever to engage in any form of illicit practice before, during and after the evaluation of the level and magnitude of knowledge acquired by them.

He specifically warned academic and non-teaching staff members of the University against involvement in examinations irregularities.

Prof. AbdusSalam reminded members of the congregation of the punishment that may be meted out to perpetrators by the authorities of the University.

He added that divine punishment also awaits all those who are involved in malpractices as he warned that those who escape punishment in this life would not escape that of the Almighty Allah in the hereafter.

The cleric-don later led the congregation in the two rakaat prayers, which attracted several dignitaries including the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa; the Director of Works, Mr Rahmon Amao and the Deputy Director (Works), who is also the University Estate Officer, Dr Bolakale Sahid Baba, among others.
