UNILORIN Holdings hosts maiden sports fiesta

The University of Ilorin-owned commercial outfit, UNILORIN Holdings, has organised its maiden sports fiesta.

Tagged UNILORIN Holdings Games, the week-long sporting event kicked off last Monday (May 4, 2026) with a city-wide road show that took participants round major streets in Ilorin metropolis.

In a chat wirh UNILORIN Bulletin, the Managing Director of UNILORIN Holdings, Prof. Bashiru Ademola Raji, explained that the road show was meant to create awareness for the sports week and strengthen team spirit in which hierarchy is de-emphasised among staff members of the Holdings.

Prof. Raji disclosed that other corporate bodies and some secondary schools in the state participated in the fiesta, which was in two categories, corporate bodies and schools.

He noted that the Holdings was establishing its next generation of customers by attracting the students.

While speaking on the first full business year of the Holdings,  the Managing Director pointed out that the business model is circular and the market is waiting for the expansion of products and distribution.

At the conclusion of the sporting competition at the University Stadium last Friday (May 8, 2026) UNILORIN Holdings Team clinched the first and third positions in Draught, a board game also known as checkers, while 7up Bottling Company took the second position.

In the game of Chess, Team UNILORIN Water emerged first, 7up came second while UNILORIN Holdings came third.

In Volleyball, 7up took the first prize, UNILORIN Water emerged second while UNILORIN Catering Service emerged third.

In both Tennis and Badminton, 7up took the top prize while UNILORIN Holdings won  both second and third positions.

In the game of Football,  UBA  emerged champions, winning the gold medal, GGMAX won silver medal, while 7up won bronze.

In the Schools category Ilorin Grammar School emerged the overall champions, St. Anthony Secondary School came second, Federal Staff School came third,

Unilorin Secondary School emerged fourth, while Iqra College was fifth.
